Case Study: Custom Tape Solution Increases Large Machine Manufacturer Productivity

A leading machine manufacturer approached SpecTape to design a custom product to make it easier to handle adhesives on their manufacturing line. SpecTape worked closely with the manufacturer to design a product that would meet their exact needs and provide a cost-effective solution. The custom product was designed to reduce the time and effort needed to manage adhesives on the manufacturing line, leading to increased efficiency and cost savings.

CHALLENGE


Before SpecTape’s involvement, operators on an assembly line were using a standard roll of tape and trying to cut the roll into 8’’ strips. The problem was that the operators were wearing heavy mechanics gloves, which made this process cumbersome and time-consuming. As a result, it was taking too much time for the operators to pick at the liner and try to cut the tape to the correct size. This issue was further compounded by the fact that the operators were struggling to accurately measure and cut the tape to the desired size. SpecTape was able to solve this problem by providing customized pre-cut strips of tape that were 8’’ in length, eliminating the need for operators to measure and cut the tape themselves. This allowed the operators to quickly and accurately apply the tape to the assembly line, reducing the time spent on the task and improving the efficiency of the production process.

SOLUTION


SpecTape was able to address the issue of operators struggling to remove the liner from the tape while wearing heavy-duty gloves. To solve this problem, they created a custom double-sided tape with an extended half-inch edge on one side. This extended edge allowed the operators to easily pull the liner without having to take off their gloves. Additionally, to save time and make the process more efficient, the tape was perforated every 8’’. This meant that the operators were able to pull off a perfectly measured piece of tape every time without having to stop and cut the material.
