Converting Capability: Lamination
SpecTape’s comprehensive converting plant allows us to produce specialty items tailored for custom applications via a variety of converting capabilities. Perhaps one of the most versatile converting options at our disposal is lamination. Lamination is the process of combining two or more products to create a new product to customer specifications.
There are many different ways to apply our lamination capabilities while looking for pressure-sensitive solutions for a customer’s needs. Our versatile equipment allows SpecTape to create new products by laminating adhesives to adhesives, adhesives to liners, or laminating PSA to non-adhesive substrates.
A great example of SpecTape’s laminating capabilities can be found in our ST-440 Riveters Tape. Designed for the airline industry, a cellophane film is laminated through the middle of a roll of clear PVC to void the adhesive in the middle, while leaving the adhesive exposed on the edges. This tape is primarily used to hold rivets in place in airplane construction or repair, and removes clean after the job is finished.
There are also many instances where a customer will provide us with a material with no adhesive and ask us to laminate on a PSA and slit to usable rolls or provide us with a large width roll of adhesive and ask SpecTape to laminate a second liner onto this adhesive and slit to smaller sized rolls.
There are many ways to use lamination to help customers solve their specialty pressure-sensitive adhesive needs. With multiple-size presses available at our Erlanger facilities, there is no lamination job too big or small for us to handle. We have multiple smaller presses (6”-16”) and a large-scale laminator that can handle up to 61” wide materials.
