In order to dramatically increase productivity, a leading beverage company enlisted SpecTape’s help in solving production challenges related to updating and automating their bottling line.

 

CHALLENGE

Before the bottling process became more automated, the cap of the beverage bottle was being applied by hand. A pressure-sensitive adhesive tear strip was supplied by a worker and cut to length out of an automatic dispenser. The worker then applied the tear strip to the bottle and cap by hand.

There were no products available that solved the following application challenges:

• The adhesive tape strip had to be applied automatically.
• The tape backing and adhesive had to withstand the elevated temperature of the melted wax.
• The tensile strength of the tape strip had to be strong enough to tear the cooled wax.

 

SOLUTION

SpecTape developed and custom converted a new product, tear strips die-cut on a liner much like a roll of labels, that is applied automatically where that cap meets the bottle before being dipped in wax.
